Quote: There have been several questions lately regarding the future of the Star Wars Miniatures and Roleplaying Game and until now I haven’t had definitive answers to give you. After a lengthy evaluation, Wizards of the Coast has decided not to renew the Star Wars license with Lucasfilm. We’ve had a long and fantastic run, but with the economic downturn, we have made the tough decision to discontinue our Star Wars lines.
The license officially ends in May this year, with WotC product available through August. In the meantime, we have awesome new products still coming your way. This week, we released The Dark Times minis and Galaxy of Intrigue RPG. We’ll have more coming with Masters of the Force minis in April, which will have some of your most favorite characters along with rare creatures from the Dejarik Holochess game that have never appeared in our game. We’ll also release The Unknown Regions RPG in April, which includes entirely new planets and mini-adventures for each world.
We are finishing the line with a bang so look for special programs at your local game store to stock up on favorite sets before they go into the vault. We will continue to support our Star Wars forums on the Wizards Community site so you can reach out and chat with us and other fans.
While I know the news is disappointing, we wanted to make this announcement as soon as possible and thank you for being such great fans. It’s been a fantastic ride with the Star Wars community and working with Lucasfilm. We hope you enjoy the next several months of great products. You never know when we may circle back again!

| That is unfortunate. I could see canceling DDM over SWM, but apparently not! http://wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/drcw/2010January | | Waiting for Chainmail Equivalencies since 2005 Old Lead trades | |

| That is a bit suprising...... I've seen a few indicators of Star Wars sliding towards the edge, but I didn't realize it was so close. It's one of the few pre-painted mini games still played around here (ever since DDM bit the dust). I've got two thoughts on this, both in relation to what was said.
On Wotc's decision to not renew, I think it was a combination of Lucas wanting more money, and a hemoraging of their rpg and mini lines. My guess is that Star Wars minis does better than DDM, just not enough to pay Lucas co, and remain profitable for Wotc. Yes there is the economy, but they've made some very poor marketing and development decisions in the past eight years. Seriously, when you have a succssesfull game, don't create competition for it. | | | Champion of the Sucubuss Paladin and the Celestial Vrock. | |

| I'm just hoping that someone picks up the RPG and maybe LUCAs sells the miniature rights to someone who can make them like WOTC. Doubtful but i'll hold out a shred of hope. Hopefully we hear from someone in Lucas marketing by summertime. | | The ROCK layeth the smacketh down. | What else needed to be made for the game? We had ...... Old Ones know how many sets, with resculpts of the major characters. I'm not suprised it ended before DDM, although with the way things are going lately, I don't think DDM is too far behind. | | | Champion of the Sucubuss Paladin and the Celestial Vrock. | |

| So Star Wars is getting the axe, and D&D minis seem not to far behind with only one set announced for this year! What is left to collect from WOTC? I'm not interested in the thematic content of Axis and Allies! | | | |

| Tentacles crossed on them doing a GI Joe mini game using the same scale and rules as Star Wars. They're by Hasbro, that wouldn't be too much of a stretch. | | | Champion of the Sucubuss Paladin and the Celestial Vrock. | |

| Maybe a Star Trek minis line (with rules compatible with the Star Wars line so we can do TrekWars battles!) A few sets with characters of course, but the initial set being with the ships (and modified Starship Battles rules) would be cool. | | | |

| There are some minature companies out there with "not" star trek figures. Some of them are pretty good, others are pretty cheap. | | | Champion of the Sucubuss Paladin and the Celestial Vrock. | |

| I don't see anyone being able to influence Wotc on this one. Best would be an independant online community of players. Of course I would wonder how Lucas & Co. would take that. | | | Champion of the Sucubuss Paladin and the Celestial Vrock. | |
